Creativity – How to Generate New Ideas

Right from time, we have been created with the capacity to think, create and invent things. Our dominion on earth is linked to our productivity which determines our influence anywhere we find ourselves. The minimum requirement for achievement in any part of the world is just an idea.

You can move from failure to success, from poverty to wealth, from joblessness to CEO by receiving ideas and turning those ideas to reality.

Let me share a wonderful and powerful story that I read in Think and Grow Rich with you. Many years ago, in a small town in the United States of America, a doctor climbed his horse and rode to a chemist’s shop. He went in through the back door. He carried in his hand an old fashioned kettle and a wooden paddle. He brought these items to the store clerk with a sheet of paper on which was written the formula for a drink. Both of them began to negotiate and eventually the clerk gave the doctor five hundred dollars for those items he had come to sell. What the doctor sold to the clerk was worth a fortune to the young clerk but not to the doctor who gave the items away for just five hundred dollars.

To the amazement of the clerk, the content of the kettle he sold away has since become a household name in the world and has generated billions of dollar. The content of the bottle can be found all over the planet.

Upon purchase, the clerk added something to the kettle, the paddle and the formular. That thing, in the world over is believed to be an idea. Today, the content of that bottle is the greatest selling consumer beverage in the whole wide world. It has turned the fortune of many families around and those that have invested into that idea during its formative years today are worth billionaires in dollars. The name of this drink is something you know: it is Coca-Cola, and the name of the clerk is Asa Candler.

What the doctor sold for five hundred dollars several years ago has assumed a value that is difficult to estimate today. What made the difference, what brought about the transformation was just one good idea. Ideas are thoughts, plans or images impressed on the human mind. Ideas are powerful and the ones whose time has come is even more powerful.

There are two sides to the creation of anything: first the mental and second the physical. Everything you can find around you today, first existed has an idea in somebody’s mind. Ideas are powerful and they hold the key to unlock futures fortunes. The world thrives on ideas. Companies leverages on ideas through innovation. Ideas brings about innovation and creations of new things which eventually sustains a company. Without ideas, no company will be in existences today. The more relevant your idea is , the more influence and power you posses anywhere you are. Ideas is all about creativity, innovation, doing things in different ways and challenging the conventional way.

When next you find yourself in need to new ideas, try out any of the ways outlined below and make sure you complete the task attached to each.

Go On a Vacation

If you need an idea, you must learn to take time out to relax and unwind. Infact, there are times when you will need to embark on a personal retreat. When stuck in a project and it seems you’re not getting ahead, all you need to finish that project might just be to take time out and be alone with yourself. Even when you’re not stuck within a project, you still need to embark on a personal retreat from time to time. Don’t get too busy with work and activities In the office or in your business that you don’t have time for what is important. That part leads to multiple crisis. And you can avoid it.

One of my mentors said,
“Successful people embark on retreats regularly to recharge their batteries and get ready for greater exploits. A retreat is a platform where the intellectual and the spiritual aspects of one’s life fuse. Bill Gates, one of the world’s richest men, goes to one of the Oriental countries once in a year for a retreat, to receive fresh instructions and flow of ideas from Divine Intelligence.”
You receive creative and inspired ideas when you’re alone. Illumination and ideas flows when you set aside time to do focused thinking.

Task: When next you find yourself stucked and in need of new ideas, just work away. Take time out to rethink about your processes. You will surely come out inspired and loaded with new workable ideas.

Network

No man is an island. You can’t achieve everything all alone. You function best when you mingle, associate and work in a team. If you’re going to get ideas, you need to go out and make friends with people within and outside your industry. CEO s prefer to spend more time outside than in the office because they understand the value of networking and meeting new friends. If you want outpouring of ideas at a rapid rate, then you need to go out and connect, experiment and shares ideas with diverse group of people. Discussion with fellow human beings sparks up new ideas.

Unfortunately, most of us prefer to stay in our comfort zones. We hang out and club with familiar faces, people that we work with, people who knows us inside out. Most times such people don’t even inspire us to try new things or encourage us to take on challenging projects that has the capacity and ability to birth new ideas.

If you want ideas that will move you forward both in life and work, you will need to interact with people that are more intelligent than you. Associate yourself with people who are successful in what you are trying to start out. Make buddies with people of different colors, race, age, and background. Check on people outside your territory and line of business. There is enormous power in diversity.

Task: For the next two weeks, make friends and hang out with people who don’t know you. Share your experience with them and don’t forget to ask questions that borders you. Compare the outcome with when you usually hang out with known faces.

Brainstorm

When you get into a tight corner, do you find solutions alone or you consult? Fine, there are times when you need to do things alone but great achievers understand the power that lies within the circle of a mastermind group.

The questions you will tackle for the whole day, a think tank group will find solution to it within one hour. There is power in leveraged synergy. Synergy defined by Stephen Covey means that the whole is greater than the sum of its part. What that means is that, the relationship which the parts have to each other is a part in and of itself. It is not only a part, but the most catalytic, the most empowering, the most unifying, and the most exciting part. Creative cooperation unlocks new ideas.

Most fortune 500 companies today succeeded because of great and valuable creative cooperation. Think Warren Buffet and Charlie Monger (Berkshire Hathaway), Sergey Brin and Larry Page (Google), Hewlett and Packard (HP), Steve Jobs and Steve Wazoniak (Apple), Bill Gates and Paul Allen (Microsoft).

When next you need a cutting edge idea for a new product or service, collaborate with a mastermind group, brainstorm together and spark up intelligent group discussions.

Task: Identify people from diverse field of profession who are intelligent and resourceful and form a group together with them.

Exposure

The world is there for you to tour, enjoy and get experience. Your level of exposure matters a lot when it comes to getting ideas. How things are done in your part of the world is definitely different from how it is done else where. The idea you need to get that job done might be to observe how that same issue is been tackled else.

Reading and traveling helps to re-arrange thoughts and processes in our mind. It opens up our mind to alternative ways of getting things done.

Task: Make time out to visit other countries and observe their diverse way of doing things. You will definitely learn a lesson or two which you will find applicable one day when in need to ideas.

Do you know any other ways ideas can be generated? Please share your suggestions via the comment box below.

How To Build Your Personal Brand Online

Dear friend,

We are in the 21st century where technology is the in thing. Everything has gone global. There is hardly anything you cannot do over the Internet. Paper is fizzling out and the search engines are taking over. There is nothing you are looking for that you cannot get on the web. The web is the directory of the day and any information you want can be sorted out in minutes. The web has impacted the way we interact, network and even manage our lives.

Millions of people including top management executives, HR Consultants and leaders in all profession are turning to the World Wide Web for answers to their daily questions.

What is your profile? What are your achievements? Who knows you? How relevant are you in the world? To find global answers to all these questions, go to Google. com, type your name into the search box in quotes (like this: “Bill Gates”) and hit the enter button on your laptop and see what the world’s most used and popular search engine says about you. From the search result, we can deduce how relevant you are to the present generation. To those who have never met you before, you are your Google result. Getting to know what Google says about you is very important if you’re interested in building an online presence because the number one referencing tool for people to use when conducting a research about you is Google.

Building an Online Presence

Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia defined personal branding as the process whereby people and their careers are marked as brands.
Tom peters said,
“Regardless of age, regardless of position, regardless of the business we happen to be in, all of us need to understand the importance of branding. We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called You.”

Personal branding is about setting and positioning yourself for career and life success. Your positioning strategy can set you up for success and career advancement. If you want to separate yourself from the crowd as a distinct individual, then you’ve got to understand the importance of building a personal brand.

The good news according to tom peters is that everyone has a chance to stand out. Everyone has a chance to learn, improve, and build up his or her skills. Everyone has a chance to be a brand worthy of remark.

Before you start doing anything online, the key principle is that you need to know who you are. You cannot be everything. What are your core values? What makes you stand out from the crowd? Before communicating your strong values, you need to embark on a journey of self discovery. What are your goals, strengths, weakness, mission, vision and passion.

Once you find answers to the following questions, the next step is how to become visible by creating an online presence to boost your career profile.

To create an online presence, you need a personal website or blog like www.yourname.com which you can own by first registering a domain name at 007names.com or godaddy.com.

Call in the web developers who are skilled in latest design and software technologies to design your site according to your specification and taste. A branding expert can help out with the layout and design concept.

With a website or blog you can do virtually anything you want. You can blog and write about just anything there is in the world. Write about your values, work, projects you’re managing and your area of expertise etc. You can teach what you know best or you can even raise money for charities and participate in community development programs. Bill Gates writes at thegatesnotes.com while Richard Branson updates his blog at virgin.com/richard-branson. Your values and purpose should resonate through your website or blog.

Once your website is up and running, you can start communicating your brand.

Write articles relating to your field for publication in the print media like newspapers, magazines or online writing sites like hubpages.com, ehow.com, infobarrel.com or helium.com. You can also upload them to article directories for wider reach.

Read and comment on blogs related to your area of expertise. When you’re an expert at something, understanding the work of others related to your field will be easy. Leaving valuable comments on other people’s blog will increase traffic to your website where people can learn more about you.

Network and build quality relationship with top bloggers in your area of expertise and let them know they can recommend you when necessary. This world is so small and you never can tell who will facilitate your next big break.

Establish your presence and leverage on social networking sites like facebook, twitter, linkedin, diggs and myspace to help build your visibility on the web.

Make sure you’re known for one thing on the web. Don’t be a jack of all trade master of none. Build your website around your core area of expertise. Value quality over quantity. Be consistent with your actions and keep to your promise if you make any. Always deliver as at when due. Let your personal integrity resonate through the world wide web.

With the rate at which the world is advancing, we all can no longer be separated from technology. Google will soon become a reference point when the time comes to know who you are. If you discipline yourself to carry out the above tasks consistently for one year, your career profile will be on the rise and I can bet that when next you or someone Google your name, the world wide web will pop out amazing data about your exploits.

What else are you waiting for? The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time to plant a tree is NOW. Start NOW

Do you know any other way you can increase your visibility on the web? Please share via the comment box below.

Cheers

Goal Setting – 7 Simple Steps to make it real

Dear friend,

I have written something related to this before but I just want to dish out these seven step formula for setting and achieving goals that you can use for the rest of your life:

First, decide exactly what you want, in each area of your life. Most people don’t do this at all. Clarity is power. You need to be specific.

Second, write it down clearly and specifically. Make it measurable. A goal that is not in writing is merely a fantasy. It has no energy behind it.

Third, set a deadline for your goal and if necessary, set sub-deadlines. Your subconscious mind thrives on time-specific goals.

Fourth, make a list of everything you will have to do to achieve your goal. Add to your list as you think of new activities and tasks, which you will like to do. Keep adding to your list until it is complete.

Fifth, organize your list into a plan. Decide what you need to do first and what you need to do later. Decide what needs to be done before something else is done. Work and rework your plan until it is complete.

Sixth, take action on your plan immediately. Do something, do anything, but get started. It is amazing how many people fail because they don’t take action on their goals and plans.

Seventh, and finally, resolve to do something every day that moves you closer to your major goal no matter how little it is. This discipline of doing something every day enables you to develop and maintain momentum. Daily action increases your determination and gives you energy. This single resolution, daily action, can create a turning point in your life or career.

Once you have determined your goals and written them down, think about them all the time: morning, noon and night. Ask yourself how you can achieve them? Task your brain to think out a way and before you know it, opportunities to make your goal a reality will present itself.

Share via the comment box the steps you’ve taken in the past to make sure your goal becomes a reality.

Cheers

How to Become a Student of Lifelong Learning

Dear friend,

Zig ziglar said, “Just any fool can be a success, if he cares to know what it takes.” You cannot become a success until you acquire relevant information that will help you realize your dream. The fact is that, “Your life only gets better when you get better.”

Successful and accomplished people in all areas of life are absolutely committed to themselves and to their future. They are eager to learn and practice new ideas, insights, techniques, methods and strategies. They are hungry for new information because they know that the key to transformation is rooted in information. Information makes the difference in the school of success. Every great mind is personally developed. Great minds are not born, they are developed. There is no one born a success on planet earth. Success is a conscious process that individuals subscribe to.

In this life, if you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse. I am convinced that, you can learn anything you need to learn to achieve any goal you can set for yourself.

Benjamin Franklin had only two years of formal education, before he branched off to become a printing apprentice. He spent the money for his food on books, and thus read himself to great heights. He taught himself how to read, and became one of America’s greatest philosophers.

Benjamin Franklin successfully founded a university, built a specialist hospital, became one of the foremost American philosophers, and did a particular study on lightning. He single-handedly negotiated the French Government’s support for the America revolution, which enabled America gain independence from Britain.

Richard Branson’s successful business empire is traceable to a book he encountered when he was a newspaper vendor. The book is titled, Small Is Beautiful. It is a book on economics and that was where he learn the art of breaking conglomerate into smaller units.

You have enormous untapped reserves of mental capacity that you have never used. You have the ability to learn and become excellent in more areas than you can ever imagine or dream of. But your brain is like a muscle. If you don’t use it, you lose it, at least temporarily.

The 21st century belongs people who are competent, people who are very good at what they do and who are getting better every single day.

Life will pay you whatever you request but to earn more, you must learn more. You must add more value. You must develop the ability to make a better and more important contribution. You must be asking, every single day, “What can I do to increase my value to my company and myself?”

I advice you invest heavily in your personal development. For every monthly income you earn, channel some certain percentage back into your mind via acquisition of relevant books relating to your field of practice or business. Take time to devour those materials and in little or no time, you will become better and the reward you will get is going to be unquantifiable.

You are your most valuable asset. Your ability to think well and act effectively depends upon the quality and quantity of knowledge and ideas that flows through your mind. You must continually feed and program your mind to develop more of your virtually unlimited potential. You must continually upgrade your abilities to think and perform at higher levels.

Here is a simple formula for lifelong success. It will make you rich. It is absolutely guaranteed. It works for everyone who tries it. “Invest as much in your mind each year as you invest in your car.” If you were simply to spend as much money upgrading your skills and abilities each year as you spend to keep your car on the road, you would become one of the most competent and highest paid people in America, if not the world. There are virtually no exceptions to this rule.

The three keys for continuous growth are simple. First, read one hour or more each day in your chosen field. The highest paid people in America read two to three hours each day to keep current and to improve their minds. But if you were only going to invest one hour per day in a good book that helped you to be better at your job, that would be enough.

One hour per day of reading would translate into about one book per week. The average American reads less than one book per year. If you read one book per week, that would translate into fifty books per year, or 500 books in ten years. At the very least, you’d need a bigger house just to hold your books.

Second, listen to audio programs in your car, when you exercise and when you move around. The average car owner sits in his or her car 500 to 1000 hours each year. If you listened to educational audio programs as you drive from place to place, you’ll get the equivalent of full time university attendance. This practice alone can make you one of the best informed and highest paid people in your field.

Third, attend every course and seminar you can find, even if you have to pay a lot or travel great distances. Through this, you can learn something different that will accelerate your growth and change your life forever.

Please don’t take the above steps lightly. Practice them and your success will be colorful. We are in the age of success, so let us invest to acquire the necessary information that will push us forward. If you have any more suggestions for continuous growth, please share it via the comment box below.

Cheers
